Endovenous Laser

What is Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)?

Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) is a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedure used to treat varicose veins caused by chronic venous insufficiency. This technique uses laser energy to seal off faulty veins, rerouting blood flow to healthier veins and relieving symptoms like pain, heaviness, and swelling.

EVLT is performed in-office with local anesthesia, requires no stitches, and has minimal downtime.

How Does It Work?

  • Ultrasound Guidance is used to locate the diseased vein.
  • A thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein through a small needle.
  • Laser energy is delivered to the vein wall, heating and collapsing it.
  • The closed vein is gradually absorbed by the body over time.

Who is a Candidate for EVLT?

EVLT is ideal for patients with:

  • Visible varicose veins
  • Leg heaviness, swelling, or pain
  • Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)
  • Failed conservative treatments (e.g., compression therapy)

Dr. Suri will determine candidacy through a physical exam and venous ultrasound.

Benefits of EVLT

  • Minimally invasive (no large incisions)
  • Quick recovery – return to normal activities the same day
  • High success rate (over 95%)
  • Covered by most insurance plans
  • Local anesthesia only
  • No visible scarring

What to Expect During and After the Procedure

During Treatment:

  • Performed under local anesthesia
  • Takes 30–60 minutes
  • Little to no discomfort

After Treatment:

  • Compression stockings are worn for 1–2 weeks
  • Walking is encouraged immediately
  • Most patients return to work the next day
  • Mild bruising or tightness may occur for a few days

Results are typically visible in a few weeks, with continued improvement over time.

Risks and Side Effects (Rare)

  • Minor bruising or soreness
  • Temporary skin numbness or tightness
  • Superficial clot or inflammation (phlebitis)
  • Very rare risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

Dr. Suri closely monitors all patients to ensure safety and optimal healing.
